Insure vs. Ensure

Not So Difficult

The difference between these two words is fairly easy to remember.

Definitions of these words make it very clear which word to use in your sentence.

Insure – related to financial insurance contracts – see how simple this is?

Ensure – to make certain, guarantee.

1) I want to insure my wife’s life.

She insured the lives of her children.

Bob told his employees they are able to insure their spouses under the company plan.

2) Jane wanted to ensure a positive outcome of the dispute.

Let’s do a good job training the horse to ensure he wins the race.

The artist’s talent ensured a beautiful painting.
