Does Your Environment Affect Your Writing Life?

Let’s Find Out

By Annette Rey

Looking for new writing inspiration? Do you want to acquire intriguing information about your own reality? Then reading this book should give birth to new writing projects.

I am eager to read – Welcome to Your World, How the Built Environment Shapes Our Lives by Sarah Williams Goldhagen – to further my understanding of how the world around me influences my inner self.

The book claims that recent research in cognitive neuroscience and psychology reveals that what we see affects our mental, emotional, and physical health. Did you know that your heart rate and cortisol levels rise when you walk through a featureless section of town? Can being surrounded by views of trash-filled streets and neglected neighborhoods contribute to negative human behavior? What mood would you be in after relaxing at a beach on a sunny day and after trying to maneuver your way through dark, threatening alleys?

Despite some bad reviews online, I hope you give this book your attention from the aspect of reading it as a writer seeking to realistically portray your characters based on the worlds you create for them.

Introducing yourself to new information can only enrich your writing.

I am going to give this book a try.
