Don’t let this site intimidate you. I say this because on first glance you might be insulted and say, “This is not for me. I’m an adult. This is for children.” And I say, no this site is great for adult writers to use.

Let me explain.

This site has every category you can imagine related to spelling, reading, grammar, vocabulary, and composition.

Under the category Reading are subcategories like: Character Descriptions, Character Traits, Context Clues, Drawing Conclusions, Fact and Opinion, Figurative Language, Main Idea, Making Inferences, Point of View, Story Elements, and more.

Let’s look at just one of these to see how you, as an adult writer, can make use of this site.

Under Reading Skills on the left-hand side of the site, click on Character Traits. A variety of choices appear. I clicked on the first option – http://www.k12reader.com/worksheet/character-traits-worksheet-black-beauty/view/.

I chose Reading Skills/Character Traits based on what the site says about this category as the example for this post. It’s a passage from Black Beauty and asks you to read it and pick from it ten character traits of a horse named Greer, and three traits of men mentioned. “As students improve their inferencing skills, they more naturally apply these skills in developing characters in their own writing.”

All of the worksheets can be downloaded and/or printed. The use of the site is free, no sign up required, and no limit to how much you use it.
